What to do next?
There a number of actions you can take if you think you have been discriminated against at work. Although this will depend on what the nature of the discrimination is, some broad guidelines are:
Act quickly: there are time limits for bringing cases under, for example, the Race Relations Act, and racial discrimination can be difficult to prove.
Keep a careful, dated record of what happened: The more specific and detailed this is, the better the your case will be. You will have better chance of proving you have been discriminated against if you gather as much evidence as you, as soon as possible.
Try to sort it out: Many issues can be resolved with the support of colleagues or friends by speaking to someone in charge, such as a manager. Talk about it with someone you trust.
Seek advice: You can get advice from:
Your Trade Union
Advice Centres and Law Centres
Equality Advice agencies such as the Commision for Racial Equality and the Equal Opportunities Commision
